The International Harpsichord Festival in Belgrade organised by the Belgrade Cultural Centre has been a unique event in South-Eastern Europe, and the entire Old Continent as well, since its inception. Its objective to promote the harpsichord as a four hunderd-year-old solo and chamber music instrument makes this event one of the key factors in the process of preserving European music culture and cultural heritage. During the previous editions of the Festival, numerous music aficionados and young people have been given a unique opportunity to enjoy music pieces from four hundred-year-old literature performed by some of the most prominent harpsichordists and pedagogues in this domain from the USA, Israel, Spain, France, Germany, Hungary, Slovenia, Serbia and other European countries. Let us not forget excellent master classes as well.
The sixth edition of the Festival will be held in the Atrium of the National Museum (concerts) and Austrian Kulturforum in Belgrade (master classes) from 2nd to 13th November. It will fulfil the highest artistic and educational demands this year, as well. This year’s participants are highly appraised and renowned artists and university pedagogues from various European academic institutions and schools as well as young harpsichordists from Belgrade and Serbia. This year’s programme focuses on presenting several composers in form of their individual concerts. On the occasion of the 250th anniversary of George Friedrich Handel’s death, two concerts at the very beginning of the Festival will be dedicated to this outstanding figure in baroque music. Then, there are concerts dedicated to Girolamo Frescobaldi (performance by Christopher Stembridge), Antonio de Cabezón (performance by Laura Puerto) and our contemporary composer and fellow citizen Miloš Petrović (performance by M. Petrović). Music for two harpsichords (S. Stojanović-Kutlača and Ágnes Várallyay) comes afterwards. At the end, the audience will have a pleasure to hear young harpsichordists from the Festival master classes.
